The Cyborg Portrait

The Cyborg Portrait, was comprised of an altered settee and five needlepoint pillows each with an abstracted portrait of the artist. Each two crossed stitched threads represent four pixels of the source images. The source images were created by projecting Super 8mm home movies onto the artist’s face as a screen while the artist simultaneously video-recorded herself. Stilled images from the video were then meticulously colour matched to thread and cross-stitched onto pillow fronts. The cross-stitched images are life-size.

This piece is in the permanent collection of The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie. Exhibited in Grande Prairie, Saskatoon and Calgary.

42” wide by 33” high installed at 30 inches high, 2000-05.
